Cyber Security Awareness Month 2024

Cyber Security Awareness Month

Creating Partnership to Raise Cybersecurity Awareness in PNG

This year in October, we again join the global initiative to observe International Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM), a campaign that emphasizes the vital role of cybersecurity in our increasingly digital world.

In Papua New Guinea, the National Information and Communications Technology Authority (NICTA), in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), are proud to spearhead this effort to promote safer online practices during the whole month of October

Secure Our World

This year’s theme, Secure Our World, highlights four critical actions that individuals and organizations can take to strengthen their cybersecurity:

  1. Use Strong Passwords and a Password Manager
Protect your accounts with complex, unique passwords and secure them with a reliable password manager.
  2. Turn on Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Add an extra layer of protection by enabling MFA on your important accounts.
  3. Recognize and Report Phishing Attempts
Stay vigilant against suspicious emails, links, or messages that may be phishing attacks.
  4. Update Software Regularly
Keep your devices safe by installing software updates as soon as they’re available.

We invite individuals, schools, government agencies, and private organizations to commemorate Cyber Security Awareness Month this October by organizing mini-information sessions or other relevant activities. These initiatives aim to spread awareness and encourage cyber hygiene practices that align with the key messages of this campaign.

Resources to Support Your Awareness Efforts

To support your initiative on cybersecurity awareness, we have made available the Cyber Awareness Toolkit 2024, developed by CISA and the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA). This toolkit offers valuable resources and key messages to help guide your campaign.

Additionally, you can download the simple Information Guide that outline best practices and tips for staying secure online.
